Drug Abuse Awareness Session

Brief about the activity:

Lucknow Public College of Professional Studies, Gomti Nagar, organised a Drug Abuse Awareness Session on 10 October 2024 in the Conference Hall of the college. The programme was coordinated by the NSS unit. The resource person for the session was Shri Anil Kumar Vishwakarma, Sahayak Narkotics Ayukt, Kendriya Narcotics Bureau, Lucknow. A total of 157 students along with faculty members enthusiastically attended the programme.

Shri Vishwakarma delivered a detailed presentation on different categories of narcotic and psychotropic substances, their short-term and long-term impact on physical and mental health, and the social and economic consequences of addiction. Through real case examples and visuals, he explained how drug abuse leads to deterioration in personality, behaviour, academic performance and family life. He also familiarised the participants with relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, legal responsibilities of educational institutions and procedures for reporting suspicious activities.

The speaker emphasised the importance of early identification of behavioural changes among students and highlighted counselling, peer support and community awareness as key strategies for prevention. An interactive question–answer session enabled students and faculty to clarify doubts and share experiences. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks and presentation of a memento to Shri Vishwakarma, acknowledging his informative and thought-provoking session.
