The NSS unit of Lucknow Public College of Professional Studies (LPCPS) organised a Plantation Drive in the adopted village Sallahimau, Lucknow, on 23 October 2024. The activity aimed to promote environmental conservation and sensitise villagers about the importance of trees for a cleaner and healthier habitat. Twenty NSS volunteers, accompanied by Dr. Ashish Kaushal, Associate Professor and NSS Coordinator, and Dr. Neeraj Singh, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, actively participated in the drive.
Students, along with faculty members, planted a variety of saplings along the roadside and in the open spaces near the houses of villagers. The volunteers demonstrated proper methods of planting and watering saplings and briefed the residents about regular care, protection from stray animals, and long-term benefits such as shade, improved air quality, and prevention of soil erosion. Women and children from the village enthusiastically joined the activity, which created a sense of shared responsibility towards the environment.
The Plantation Drive in Village Sallahimau strengthened the bond between LPCPS and the local community and reinforced the role of NSS in community development and environmental protection. The college plans to conduct follow-up visits to ensure the survival and growth of the planted saplings.
